A Romanian woman threw out her husband’s boots – containing their life savings.
Roxana T, from Alba Iulia was clearing out her family home when she discovered the battered footwear hidden away in her wardrobe and decided to throw them away.
She didn’t realise her husband Calin had hidden $58,800 in one of them – which they had been saving to build a new home with.
The couple decided to keep the money in their home after a previous problem with a bank.
Two weeks later, police discovered local woman Maria Boti had found the money – and used it to buy a new home of her own.
She was forced to cancel the same and return the money to the couple. Boti now faces three months in prison for not declaring her find to local authorities.
