Beggars who made 100 GBP a day each and travelled between their favourite sites by taxi have been arrested by police after complaints from donors.
The pair – from Botosani, Romania – lived in hotels while they travelled the country conning trusting do-gooders out of a fortune while they dressed up as down and outs.
Police – now preparing fraud charges – discovered Silvia Ciubotariu, 49, and Viorel Iacob, 44, controlled 10 different bank accounts and had thousands of pounds in savings from their scam.
„They were earning in a day what most Romanians get paid in a month. They were very convincing but it was all faked,” said one officer.
