Everton defender Phil Jagielka has been included in the squad to face Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League.

The 27-year-old has not featured for the first team since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Manchester City last April.

Jagielka is standing by as Sylvain Distin (suspended), John Heitinga (cup-tied) and Tony Hibbert (hernia) are all unavailable. Philippe Senderos is struggling with a back problem but has travelled.

Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini are also sidelined with calf and ankle injuries as Everton look to build on a 2-1 first leg victory in the last 32.

Everton squad: Howard, Nash, Turner, Baines, Yobo, Neville, Coleman, Senderos, Jagielka, Duffy, Arteta, Osman, Pienaar, Bilyaletdinov, Gosling, Rodwell, Baxter, Donovan, Yakubu, Anichebe, Vaughan, Saha.

Striker Fernando Torres is likely to be on the bench again for Liverpool against Unirea Urziceni in Bucharest.

The Spain international made his comeback against Manchester City on Sunday after five weeks out with a knee injury which required surgery.

However, with Liverpool leading 1-0 from last week’s tie at Anfield there is no need to risk the forward from the start as David Ngog is fit having missed the weekend game with an ankle injury.

Midfielder Yossi Benayoun is pushing for a place in the starting line-up having also made his comeback – from a broken rib – at City.

With Maxi Rodriguez ineligible having already played in Europe for Atletico Madrid, Benayoun could contest the left-sided role with Albert Riera.

Defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos, currently serving a domestic suspension which rules him out of Sunday’s match at home to Blackburn, is available but may remain on the bench as he did for the first leg.

Liverpool squad: Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Insua, Gerrard, Lucas, Aquilani, Benayoun, Riera, Ngog, Kuyt, Torres, Cavalieri, Pacheco, Spearing, Darby, Babel, Aurelio, Degen, Kelly.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson makes one enforced change for the trip to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Full-back Nicky Shorey is ineligible so Stephen Kelly will return in defence, as he did for Fulham’s 2-1 first leg win.

Stefano Okaka is also cup-tied while Andrew Johnson, Clint Dempsey and John Pantsil (all knee) are still out.

Fulham squad: Schwarzer, Zuberbuhler, Baird, Kelly, Stoor, Hangeland, Hughes, Smalling, Gera, Duff, Murphy, Greening, Davies, Etuhu, Riise, Nevland, Elm, Zamora.

Fran Gavin, director of the League of Ireland, Damien Richardson and Eddie Gormley discuss the end of Cork City FC and the implications for the League.
