ROMANIAN Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi welcomed the forthcoming visit to Bucharest by Singapore’s special envoy to Romania, and expressed readiness to extend full support to the envoy.
He reassured Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo of Romania’s commitment to observe legal procedures fully and to enforce the law in the case of former diplomat Silviu Ionescu.
While driving an embassy car, Dr Ionescu allegedly hit three people last December.
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said yesterday that Mr Baconschi expressed these sentiments in reply to Mr Yeo’s two letters.
Mr Yeo said that Singapore had named its ambassador in Brussels, Mr Anil Kumar Nayar, as its special envoy to Romania, who will visit Romania this month with a team of legal experts to help with the case. The MFA said that it welcomed Mr Baconschi’s assurances and will cooperate fully with Romania.
