Top seed and world number three Caroline Wozniacki was forced to withdraw from the Polsat Warsaw Open on Thursday and cast doubt on her chances of being fit for the French Open.
Wozniacki pulled out after losing the first set 6-3 to Chinese fifth seed Jie Zheng, and admitted: „My ankle was taped really well today and I still felt some pain, so I don’t know. I hope I can be fit.”
Zheng’s win raised the possibility of an all-Chinese final, with her compatriot Li Na now the highest seed remaining in the draw at number three after she made short work of Sara Errani, 6-2 6-1.
Zheng and Li will be kept apart in the semi-finals, with Zheng up against the tournament’s surprise package, Hungary’s world number 205 Greta Arn, who beat sixth seed Alona Bondarenko 5-7 6-4 6-4.
Meanwhile Li will face defending champion Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania. She fought back after a sluggish start to defeat the Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4 7-5.
