Romania’s prime minister says all European countries are responsible for the millions of Gypsies on the continent.
Romania has an estimated 1 million Gypsies, also known as Roma – the most of any European country.
But Prime Minister Emil Boc said Thursday other European nations have a „common obligation” regarding the Gypsies, which face widespread discrimination.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday ordered authorities to expel Gypsy illegal immigrants and dismantle their camps. Many Gypsies in France come from Romania and Bulgaria.
French officials have accused the Romanian government of not fulfilling its promises on the Gypsy problem. Boc denies this and says he has named a government official for Roma integration.
