A plane bound for was forced to return to Romania today after someone phoned in an anonymous bomb threat 15 minutes into the flight.
None of the 165 passengers aboard the no-frills flight were in any danger, but the terror scare underscores how seriously airlines continue to take any security threats.
An anonymous phone call was made shortly after flight W6703 took off from Timisoara Airport at 6.20am.
The jet had been headed for Luton in Bedfordshire but a decision was taken to return to Romania, where all passengers were evacuated and the aircraft was searched.
„The plane had to go back to Timisoara,” Luton confirmed. „It’s understood it was a hoax call. The plane should have landed here at Luton at 7.20am and we are now expecting it at 1.15pm.”
Wizz Air flies between Timisoara and Luton three times a week. The Hungarian low-cost carrier currently sells for more than 150 connections across Europe.
