A singer, songwriter and producer, Jon Secada wrote and produced music for recording artists Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Mark Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. In addition, he just finished his fourth season as one of the three judges on Latin American Idol, viewed by over 100 million people in South America.
Mr. Secada’s new concert DVD drops this fall, and he has two new albums out: „Classics” and „Classicos,” one in English, the other in Spanish. The Cuban-born crooner is headed out on a concert tour; in fact, he’ll be performing in Bucharest, Romania on May 19th, spending the rest of the month touring and performing in Turkey, then back to the U.S. to tour select cities backed by a full orchestra. In a „balancing act” of his own, Mr. Secada is on tour after a self-imposed hiatus. Between raising a family and involving himself in several children’s charities, particularly the Miami Children’s Hospital, the AIDS Foundation and Make-A-Wish, Jon Secada spent time as a music professor at University of Miami and Miami Dade Community College, endowing musical scholarships at both schools.
„I try to live a very balanced life between my family and my career,” he says. „Being a father is the most important role I play in life. My daughter is now eleven, and showing signs of being musically inclined, and my son is seven. Having children changed my whole perspective, and musical education now holds an even more special place in my heart. I want to be able to help other children who might not otherwise get a musical education, and I am part of the Grammy Foundation and Education of the Arts, in addition to my work in the Miami schools.”
