Thousands of people held protest rallies in several Romanian cities against the planned cuts of budget wages and pensions, Romanian agency Mediafax reported. Around 2,000 people held a rally in the centre of Brasov, where the demonstrators had clashes with the police officers, which were guarding the prefecture building.
Protestors burned photographs of President Traian Basesku and demanded the president and the government to resign, in the Western Romanian city Deva. In Arad, the demonstrators blocked the traffic in the centre of the city, where all administrative buildings are situated.
Protest rallies were organised in many cities and towns in Northern, Eastern, and Southern Romania, but not in the capital – Bucharest.
