Unseeded Spaniard Pablo Andujar survived a three set battle to upset second seed and World No.45 Florian Mayer to enter the quarterfinals of the 2010 BCR Open Romania, an ATP World Tour 250 event, being played here in Bucharest, Romania.
Andujar made a fine start to the match and after holding all his serves gallantly, broke Mayer’s serve in the eighth game to wrap up the first set 6-3. The second set saw an instant shift in momentum when Mayer, seeded second in the tournament, broke Andujar’s serve in an early game to convert it into the set win to level the match.
The decider brought three breaks of serve, two in Andujar’s favour after which he completed the 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win in two hours and 11 minutes of play.
Earlier in the day, Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas took out unseeded Argentine Carlos Berlocq 6-4, 6-0 to enter the last eight of the event.
