Second-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany was knocked out of the BCR Open Romania by Spanish qualifier Pablo Andujaron in a second round upset on Thursday.
Andujar won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to line up a quarterfinal against Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay, who defeated Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq 6-4, 6-0.
Third-seeded Potito Starace rallied to avoid a similar exit, beating Victor Crivoi of Romania 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 in his second round match. The Italian will now face Spain’s Marcel Granollers, a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 winner over Italy’s Filippo Volandri.
