Sony has issued a press release today confirming that the new Spider-Man movie (currently called just Spider-Man again), being directed by Marc Webb, will „swing” into theaters worldwide on July 3rd, 2012 in glorious 3D . The new film, which is still untitled, will begin production later this year directed by Marc Webb from a script by James Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios. There aren’t any other updates on this reboot besides that release date and 3D confirmation today. Jeff Blake, Sony Pictures Chairman, said: ” Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise.” I am indeed eager to see his vision, but I am not too eager to see it in 3D. That is, unless Webb convinces them to shoot this from the ground-up using 3D. If they do that, I might consider check this out in 3D. We’ll find out what they’re doing soon enough.
